Automatic Driving Lessons in Cork
The N40, the Wilton slip past UCC, the Mallow climb. Cork has the kind of corners where you cannot afford a clutch error. An automatic puts your attention back on the road.

The Cork angle
Why learn automatic in Cork
Cork roads do not reward hesitation.
Cork is two driving tests stitched together. There is the city, with the South Ring underneath it and one-way traffic above, the English Market end of Patrick Street, the Mardyke during a UCC term-time rush. And there is West Cork, where the road changes pace four times a kilometre. Most learners spend their lessons on quiet estates and then meet a Bandon Road bus on test day. We start where the test starts.
The N40 South Ring slip
Wilton routes drop you onto the N40 with Apple-Hollyhill commuter traffic already moving at 100. A manual learner picks the wrong gear and loses the gap. An automatic chooses the gear while you read the gap. That is one fewer fault before the slip past Bishopstown is even finished.
The Mallow N20 climb
Mallow examiners ask for a hill start on the N20 out of town with Buttevant-bound traffic behind you. Roll back in a manual and you have lost the marks before you have moved. An automatic with hill-hold keeps the car still while you check the mirror, indicate, and go.
West Cork speed limit changes
Skibbereen routes shift from 80 on the N71 to 60 past Drinagh to 50 in the village and back to 80 inside a kilometre. Manual learners are mid-gear-change at every transition. An automatic keeps your eyes on the speedo and the bend, not the gear lever.

RSA driving test centres in Cork
Four RSA test centres serve County Cork: Wilton in the city, Mallow in the north, Skibbereen in the west, and Carrigaline on the harbour side. Each has its own character. Each has its own fail points. We run pretest prep on the actual route.
Cork (Wilton)
Wilton Shopping Centre, Bishopstown, Wilton, Cork, T12 EA56
Towns served: Cork city, Bishopstown, Ballincollig, Douglas, Wilton
Routes leave the Wilton Shopping Centre forecourt onto Wilton Road, then loop through Bishopstown and out toward the South Ring or back through Glasheen. The N40 slip near the Bishopstown junction is where examiners watch your speed pickup. Bandon Road is the named return route.
Towns served: Mallow, Buttevant, Charleville, Fermoy, Kanturk
Mallow routes use the town centre bridges over the Blackwater, then out toward Buttevant on the N20 or toward Killarney on the N72. The town centre one-way system around Bridge Street and West End is the fault-rich part. Examiners use the N20 stretch for speed and gap judgement.
Towns served: Skibbereen, Clonakilty, Bantry, Castletownbere, Schull
Routes run the N71 toward Ballydehob or back toward Rosscarbery, with a town-centre one-way loop and a residential stretch for the manoeuvre. The N71 has the kind of country bends where speed matters more than people think on test day.
Towns served: Carrigaline, Crosshaven, Passage West, Ringaskiddy, Monkstown, Douglas
Routes run through Carrigaline town then either out to the N28 toward Cork city or down the harbour road to Crosshaven. The N28 dual-carriageway is the speed test. The town-centre roundabout chain at the Avenue is the priority test.

Real learners. Real instructors. Passed in an automatic.
I passed my driving test on the first attempt with Jonathan Martinez in an automatic, and I would strongly recommend him to anyone looking to build their confidence behind the wheel. As a nervous and inexperienced driver without my own car, I had tried lessons with other instructors and schools.but Jonathan and were by far the best fit. Their booking system was the easiest to use, and the lessons were structured, supportive, and tailored to my pace. It's clear that Jonathan genuinely cares about helping learners become safe, confident drivers.not just passing a test. His calm, encouraging approach made all the difference. My lessons were between Dublin 12, Tallaght, and finally in Dun Laoghaire.Passed test
I recently completed additional driving lessons with Derek Verso to boost my skills and confidence beyond the 12 EDT lessons, before my test (passed at first attempt - automatic). It was a truly positive experience. Derek was patient and really helpful in identifying areas for improvement. Scheduling was easy, and Derek was always reliable and communicative (thanks Derek!) Previously, I also completed my 12 EDT lessons at with John McCabe, which was equally positive. Would highly recommend both instructors!EDT
I had the pleasure of getting automatic driving lessons with Steve and passed my test today. He's a great teacher and a lovely guy to spend the lessons with.Passed test

Automatic driving lessons in Cork: your questions answered
The questions Cork learners send us most. Direct answers, no generic filler.
Where can I take an automatic driving test in Cork?
All four Cork RSA test centres accept automatic. Wilton, Mallow, Skibbereen and Carrigaline. You sit the same Category B test as a manual learner. Your licence will note that it is automatic-only, but it is still a valid Irish driving licence.
Which Cork test centre has the highest pass rate?
Wilton has the heaviest traffic and the trickiest junctions; Mallow and Skibbereen run quieter routes with fewer fault traps. The bigger lever is whether you have driven the actual examiner route. We run pretest prep at every Cork centre on the routes the examiner uses, so when test day comes you know the road, not just the rules.
How much are automatic driving lessons in Cork?
A single automatic lesson is €61.41. Six is €353.71. Twelve is €659.24, which is €54.94 a lesson and the legal EDT requirement for new learner permit holders. Same price across Cork, Mallow, Skibbereen and Carrigaline.
Do you do EDT lessons in Cork?
Yes. The full 12-hour Essential Driver Training programme is available across all Cork pickup points. We log every lesson in your RSA EDT logbook. You finish with the legal minimum done and the test centre you are sitting at already practised.
Where can I get a pretest in Cork?
We do pretest lessons at all four Cork centres. The 1-hour pretest with car hire is €193.81. You drive the examiner route, do the manoeuvres at the actual test ground, then take our automatic in for the test itself.
Do you cover towns outside Cork city?
Yes. Mallow, Charleville, Fermoy and Buttevant for North Cork. Skibbereen, Clonakilty, Bantry and Schull for West Cork. Carrigaline, Crosshaven, Passage West and Ringaskiddy for the harbour. Pickup is at your home, your work, or any sensible town-centre point.
Will an automatic licence limit me in Cork?
An automatic licence covers any automatic car. Most new cars on Cork forecourts now are automatic by default, and every electric car is automatic. You can upgrade to a full licence later if you want to drive a manual. Most people do not bother.
