Automatic Driving Lessons in South Dublin
N81, the Tallaght roundabouts, and the Belgard merge
South Dublin test routes live on national roads, dual carriageways and the Tallaght roundabout ring. Fast merges, worn markings, and a Luas that has priority over everyone.
Why automatic in South Dublin
South Dublin runs from Clondalkin and Palmerstown out past Tallaght to Rathcoole and Saggart. The Luas Red Line threads the middle, the M50 forms the eastern edge (off-limits to learners, but always nearby), and the N81 runs south toward Blessington. Tallaght is the biggest town and the only permanent south-side RSA test centre. A lot of learners from Terenure and Rathfarnham end up testing here.
The Belgard Road N81 merge
Belgard Road drops you onto the N81 at a speed most learners are not ready for. The gap opens and closes quickly. Manual learners hesitate on gear choice and can miss it. In an automatic the car selects the gear, so you are looking at the mirror instead of the stick.
The Square and Cookstown Luas junction
Tallaght town centre is built around The Square and the Cookstown Luas junction. Luas has priority and the test examiner will route you through. A Luas can force a clean stop from 50 km/h without warning. Automatic makes the emergency stop a single pedal press. In a manual, it is clutch plus brake plus hope.
Old Bawn and Firhouse residential speed bumps
The residential sections of the route are relentless with speed bumps. Speed-bump traffic in a manual is a constant first-to-second-to-first cycle. In an automatic, you lift, you cross, you re-accelerate. No clutch fatigue, fewer Grade 2s for creeping.
RSA test centres in South Dublin
Tallaght is the single permanent RSA test centre south of the Liffey, which means learners from Terenure, Rathfarnham, Ballyboden and Templeogue all end up at Tallaght alongside the local South Dublin learners.
Tallaght
Premier Business Park, 52 Broomhill Road, Tallaght, Dublin 24, D24 VE8E
No single fixed route. Examiners rotate through Tallaght town, Greenhills, Jobstown, Old Bawn and Kingswood. The N81 merge from Belgard Road and the Cookstown Luas junction are the named fail points. Speed ramps are constant through the residential sections.

FAQs for South Dublin learners
If you test in an automatic, your Irish driving licence is valid for automatic cars only. It is a full Irish licence and all insurers in Ireland accept it. Most new cars on sale today are automatic, so this stops being a limit pretty quickly.
Ring us on 01 902 3100 or use the contact form. We confirm the slot the same day, match you to an instructor near you, and send directions for your pickup point.
Varies. Because Tallaght is the only southside centre it gets booked heavily. At the time of writing, the wait can run three to four months. Book your test slot as soon as you have your EDT done.
Yes. Your home or work is the pickup, the LA line does not matter for us. If you are testing in Tallaght you need Tallaght route practice, so we do the lessons where the test happens.
The roundabouts at The Square and around Cookstown for lane discipline, and the Belgard N81 merge for speed management. We run both in every Tallaght prep plan.
